2017 Year in review

 

Presented at the Second Aquatic Invaders Summit in St Cloud on October 5 and 6, 2016 on “Cass County Study: Enhancing the Role of Resorts and Fishing Guides in AIS Prevention – Linda Blake, ACCL – Rima Smith-Keprios, Cass County SWCD”

 

Year in transition…. Began with a Board of Directors Retreat in the spring and monthly meetings thereafter

 

A partner with Cass County on the Cass County Local Water Management Plan 2017-2027

 

Hosted and was a co-sponsor with the Leech Lake Area Watershed Foundation (LLAWF), “Establishing Freshwater Protected Areas in North Central MN,” presentation by Professor Peter Sorensen, Wildlife and Conservation Biology at the University of Minnesota, Founder of the MN Aquatic Invasive Species Research Center (MAISRC), March 3, 2017

 

Assisted CCSWCD with enhanced AIS training for Vermilion Lake Association at Vermilion Community College

 

Established working relationships with AIS Program Coordinators from Vermilion Lake Association (St Louis County) and Itasca County

 

Participated in discussion with Jeff Forester on a grant proposal to the Initiative Foundation on a Civic Governance process pilot project to develop Civic Infrastructure around local efforts to prevent the spread of AIS (as an AIS best management practice). Grant received proposal, start-up to begin November 2017.

 

Continued the facilitation of the RMBEL water testing program

 

ACCL news and notes to members; updated ACCLAKES.ORG website. ACCL notice of meetings published in area news publications. Began process of scanning ACCL business documents, moving to a paperless organization.


Began the implementation of a new outreach process to engage and educate lake associations on ACCL (new and old)


Membership in MN COLA, Minnesota Lakes & Rivers Advocates, and Northern Water Alliance. Contributed to LLAWF and Friends of the Headwaters

 

ACCL participation and display of resources at the Lake Area Community Day, June 17

 

Kept abreast of MN COLA activity; Vice President Lynn Goodrich is serving as the MN COLA representative to ACCL

 

IF/LSOHF budget up to $210,000 approved for the Multi-Region Resort Ambassador Project. Start-up to begin October 2017.

 

Support to the LL River 1W1P initiative. After August member meeting on watersheds, map donated to The Hub.

 

ACCL represented at Minnesota Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) Research and Management Showcase. Met with and received an update from Professor Peter Sorensen on his current research and possible impact on Cass County.
